Abstract

Preservation of Islamic cultural arts uses batik as a medium for the application of the Islamization of science, as a reinforcement of the basic character education of the human personality, because with art the identity of a person, society, and nation is found. The era of globalization has eroded the tradition of batik as an ancient heritage and it is starting to be abandoned. Therefore, it is necessary to revitalize batik as a means of education, so that it can be a thing of interest to the community. Batik talks about values, which are taken from the acculturation process of Javanese, Hindu, and Islamic cultures as well as the influence of immigrant cultures. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with an empirical approach and the values of entrepreneurship education, using data collection techniques of interviews as well as documentation. Based on the results of the research, the IRD Batik Walisongo motif is an Islamic nuanced batik, with the motif of the teachings of the scholars which has the value of entrepreneurship education. IRD Batik seeks to preserve Islamic cultural arts with the value of entrepreneurship education, which aims to educate people to be superior, independent, and beneficial toward all humans, so that they can describe the ideal order of community life. The following are some of the conservation efforts by IRD Batik: first, innovation of batik motifs with values from the teachings of Walisongo scholars and entrepreneurship education; second, training through apprenticeship and mentoring of craftsmen’s human resources; and third, the synergy built between the government and the private sector in instilling local wisdom derived from the teachings of the scholars, in order to revive the sense of ownership of local products, namely, batik. Of course, there are obstacles in the implementation of preserving Islamic cultural arts values through batik motifs from the teachings of scholars: First, most people are not familiar with the concept of typical clerical batik designed by IRD Batik; second, there is still a lack of interest in batik among the younger generation, third, human resources for batik teaching staff are still inadequate.
