Abstract

The Ming Dynasty and the early Qing marked the late period of the traditional Chinese society. During this period, the population grew and social productivity increased. Centralization and the authority of the monarchy developed to such an unprecedented degree that the feudal regime was facing a multifaceted situation characterized by both prosperity and decline. Meanwhile, simultaneously, the world was advancing from separation to integration, initiating the process of modernization. China, at this point, was increasingly faced with major challenges from the outside world…
