Abstract

The mobility sector is developing at a fast pace and with a massive complexity within its value network. Rising trends in the ecosystem set traditional mobility providers and associated strategic partners under pressure. Low market barriers in combination with powerful mega trends like shareconomy and new technical developments, e.g., decreasing battery prices, will facilitate the ascent of E-carsharing providers in the close future. Additionally the convergence of associated value networks is about to form a new sector — the multimodal E-carsharing sector. This development allows the extension of service offerings due to the inclusion of competencies of a variety of market players. To react to this enormous market dynamic and complexity, business model management frameworks can support decision makers substantially and ensure the viability of enterprises. While a variety of services can be offered by existing companies, most of these players have to establish additional competencies and resources to face these future market developments. The decision to adjust the portfolio of competencies may result in divestments as well as investments into inorganic growth to allow fast responses to upcoming market chances.
