Abstract

In this chapter, the role of shared fleets in multimodal mobility solutions and the possibilities of electrification will be examined. First, we introduce multimodal mobility solutions (MMS) as an alternative to private car ownership. To describe the MMS, we introduce the level of diversity (LoD) and the level of connectedness (LoC) concepts. The LoD reflects the user’s freedom of choice through a variety of different transport alternatives, the LoC determines the degree of digital and/ or physical integration of diverse transport and mobility services into a multimodal offering. Subsequently, an empirical study takes a new look at user preferences and needs regarding MMS. Using the method of cluster analysis, five customer segments, distinguished by their individual need patterns, are derived. Finally, we present a technical and user-centric approach to multimodal transportation networks.
