Maximizing Data Gathering Opportunities By Using Fitness Trackers During Ergonomic Assessments A Case Study

Abstract

Given the high cost of ergonomic assessments within industry jobs, there is a need to gather as much information in the timeframe given. Standard ergonomic assessments, such as the QEC, provide a limited amount of information, mostly centred around musculo-skeletal disorders. With the help of wearable technologies, the amount of information gathered during an assessment can increase, providing data on things such as heart rate, calorie consumption or distance walked during the work task, offering quantitative data that can be compared to the qualitative data resulting from the QEC. The paper analyses if it is feasible to gather this quantitative type of information without impeding the execution of the task and what complementary insights it offers to the standard ergonomic questionnaires.
