Abstract

Postal operators, particularly when providing Universal Services, generate wider economic value in various ways. This article discusses different approaches to measuring this wider economic value. It sets out a conceptual framework that makes sense of the economic value creation in general. Then, it presents different approaches to measuring Swiss Post’s wider economic value in particular, these have been developed within the scope of an internal project at Swiss Post. Methods applied are input-output modelling, the combination of internal data and publicly available administrative data as well as graphical illustrations with map data. Further, the chapter explains how Swiss Post can benefit from using the results of these measurements for communicative purposes.
