Abstract

In this chapter, the focus shifts to the institution of Waqf in Islamic social finance. The chapter provides a comprehensive understanding of Waqf, elucidating its nature, purpose, and distinctions from other forms of charitable giving such as Sadaqah and Zakat. With a specific emphasis on the legal framework governing Waqf in Malaysia, readers gain insights into the regulatory landscape that shapes and guides these endowments. Real-world applications are explored through the presentation of use-case studies, showcasing the diverse and impactful ways in which Waqf has been employed. The chapter also addresses the inherent issues and challenges associated with Waqf, offering a critical examination of its implementation within the context of Islamic social finance.
