Abstract

Combinations is the term used in the Competition Act, 2002 to cover mergers, amalgamations and acquisitions that need clearance from the Commission above a threshold. The considerations in ex-ante analysis while clearing the proposals is to minimize the possibility of future dominant enterprises, to attracting investment for growth. Time is an important factor in mergers and quick prescient decisions are possible if the parties submit the required data and analysis as per detailed regulations issued by CCI. In this chapter, I divide the analysis into two sections. The first section is a review of relevant regulations important for economic analysis of a merger. The second section reviews a few case studies.
