Abstract

Zusammenfassung Dieses einleitende Kapitel soll einen kontextbezogenen Überblick über den afrikanischen Kontinent und sein Sammelsurium an unterschiedlichen Menschen, Stärken und Schwächen, Volkswirtschaften und Entwicklungsniveaus geben. Angesichts des sehr unterschiedlichen Zustands der verschiedenen Volkswirtschaften werden die wirtschaftlichen Wachstumsaussichten in Afrika betrachtet. Globale, regionale und nationale Bemühungen zur Förderung einer nachhaltigen wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung werden bewertet und die verschiedenen Entwicklungsinstitutionen, globalen Gremien und regionalen Strukturen werden beschrieben, darunter die Weltbank, der IWF, die Neue Entwicklungsbank, die Afrikanische Entwicklungsbank und die Afrikanische Union. Ausländische Direktinvestitionen werden als Katalysator für die Entwicklung betrachtet. Das Kapitel schließt mit einer Bewertung der Voraussetzungen für die Entwicklung der Länder des Kontinents.
