Abstract

The growing acceleration of energy and mineral resource depletion in the northern region as a result of global warming will require an alternative transport option between Europe and the Far East in the future. A suitable alternative to existing routes is the Northern Sea Route, which is the shortest route between East Asia and Europe, potentially making it a major waterway. The length of the North Sea Route makes it economically and energetically important, with high commercial potential suitable for the transportation of oil, natural gas, and other fuel resources. At the same time, since the Arctic is rich in natural resources, major global players will be competing for control of the region and its minerals.
