Abstract

Zusammenfassung Einerseits lehnt eine knappe Mehrheit der Deutschen den Kapitalismus ab: Er vertrage sich nicht mit der Umwelt, sei sozial unausgewogen und fördere Eigenschaften wie Egoismus, eine Ellenbogengesellschaft und einen maßlosen Konsum. Vor allem die Jugend steht dem Kapitalismus zu fast zwei Dritteln kritisch gegenüber. Andererseits hat der Kapitalismus unbestreitbar in den letzten Jahrzehnten einen enormen Wohlstand mit sich gebracht. Vielen Millionen Menschen auf der Welt ist es gelungen, den Hunger zu besiegen und ein Leben auf einem höheren Wohlstandsniveau zu verbringen. Warum also, und dies ist die Kernfrage des Buches, wird dieser Kapitalismus immer wieder infrage gestellt, ja sogar teilweise rigoros bekämpft, zumal sozialistische Experimente in der Vergangenheit gescheitert sind?
