Abstract

Zusammenfassung In Deutschland steht die Adler-Lokomotive für den Beginn der industriellen Revolution und rollte 1835 erstmals zwischen Nürnberg und Fürth über die Gleise. Das Museum Industriekultur in Nürnberg zeigt, wie fundamental die Industrialisierung die Gesellschaft verändert hat. Selbst das Stadtbild wandelte sich massiv, das bis dahin noch stark mittelalterlich geprägt war. Nun brauchten die Fabriken und Maschinen Platz und vor allem die Massen an Menschen, die in die Städte drängten. So wuchs allein Berlin zwischen 1871 und 1911 von 913.000 auf 3,8 Millionen Einwohner an. Neben einem Innovationsschub in Wissenschaft und Forschung sowie der Massenproduktion, durch die viele Waren immer erschwinglich wurden, stürzte die Industrialisierung aber auch Millionen Arbeiter in Armut, während sie sich beim malochen die Gesundheit ruinierten.
