Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die deutsche Venture Capital-Landschaft wurde in den letzten Jahren maßgeblich von Medienunternehmen geprägt. Einige der größten und erfolgreichsten Venture Capital Funds in Deutschland wie HV Capital und Acton Capital gehen auf Verlagshäuser wie Holtzbrinck und Burda zurück. Medienunternehmen investieren jedoch nicht nur Geld, sondern auch Medienleistungen in Start-ups. Diese Beteiligungsform ist als Media for Equity bekannt. Auch Media for Equity hat den Start-up Standort Deutschland maßgeblich geprägt. Viele deutsche B2C-Start-up-Erfolgsgeschichten wie bspw. Zalando, ABOUT YOU, Verivox, Flaconi und home24 konnten ihre starke Markenbekanntheit nicht zuletzt durch Media for Equity-Investments aufbauen. Dieses Kapitel erläutert die Funktionsweise von Media for Equity-Investments im Detail, erklärt, welche Arten von Media for Equity-Investoren es gibt, und beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, wann Media for Equity-Investments für Start-ups und Medienhäuser vorteilhaft sind.
