Abstract

In this chapter, we shift our attention to the real-world implications of globalized and deglobalized supply chains. Drawing upon the theoretical groundwork laid in Chap. 2 , we explore the challenges and opportunities that firms face in operating global supply chains. Moreover, we delve into the strategies that can be employed to build resilient global supply chains. First, we investigate the complexities and risks inherent in global supply chains that may impose limits on a firm's further internationalization efforts. Next, we turn our focus to the sustainability concerns that are increasingly at the forefront of global supply chain considerations, as well as to the ongoing discussion about how multinational enterprises are strategically leveraging socio-political activism. We also touch upon the influential role of technological advancements in shaping global supply chains. Finally, we offer managerial insights into building a resilient global supply chain capable of weathering the challenges of today’s dynamic business environment.
