Abstract

Corporations are most often portrayed negatively in contemporary cinema, as vast and unethical organizations that do not hesitate to commit crimes to increase their profits if necessary. Backstabbing and clashes of ambitions between employees are also rife. This chapter discusses the representation of corporations in cinema. It explores the reasons for the very frequent typecast of businesspeople as movie villains and of companies as negative actors. The main hypothesis is that this portrayal has varied with the popular perception of big business, from the reverent and positive corporate dramas of the 1950s to the most recent films who have underscored the precariousness of work and the role of companies in environmental degradation.
