Abstract

Golden years. Fear of CommunismCommunism and the Cold WarCold war. Majorsmajors as instruments of foreign policy. Governments and markets do not mix well. New ‘independent’ oil companies offer producing countries better terms. Competition is not good for prices. Posted priceposted prices system is broken. Companies keep calm and carry on. OPECOrganisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is born, but not much happens.
