Abstract

Russia is a dominant economy in the EAEU, and other countries of the union have economic relations primarily with Russia. As a result, the economic situation in the union is heavily influenced by the economic situation in Russia, and Russian policy toward the EAEU. However, this policy is influenced by the geopolitics of Russia and the uncertain balance of benefits and costs of Eurasian economic integration for Russia. Facing various challenges in the EAEU, Russia’s leadership faces the most acute challenge—an inefficient and slowly growing Russian economy, which is not powerful enough to accelerate Eurasian integration.
