Abstract

Sustainable tourism has become a priority strategic program in many countries. This is because sustainable tourism development can simultaneously grow the economics of a nation, drive the wheels of business, and encourage efforts to preserve natural resources, social, and cultural values in the current generation so that the future generation can take benefit. This chapter reveals in detail various lessons learned in an integrated and organized effort to develop the quality of life by regulating the supply, development, utilization, and maintenance of resources sustainably. The role of sustainable tourism in a nation’s sustainable economic development and the negative impacts of overtourism are important to debate in this chapter. Other social issues discussed are the role of local communities as key players and their contribution to sustainable tourism. Stakeholder interaction and special attention to indigenous people are also discussed in this chapter. Good governance and environmental issues are disclosed through tourism carbon footprint. The issue of the Covid-19 pandemic situation provides stimulants for promoting virtual tourism in this chapter. Tourism must be understood as a vital issue objectively and managed professionally in the context of maintaining deeper sustainability. Besides, the establishment of synergistic strategies is necessary to deal with the transition from tourism management patterns, especially during the peak season, if the sustainability platform remains intact.
