Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to discuss The different situations which generate queueing problems The various factors/components of a queueing system A variety of performance measures (operating characteristics) of a queueing system The probability distributions of arrivals and departures in a queueing system Poisson queueing models with finite and infinite capacity The single server infinite capacity queueing model with Poisson arrival and multiphase Erlang service The single server infinite capacity queueing model with Poisson arrival and general service A mixed queueing model with random arrival rate which follows the Poisson distribution and deterministic service rate Finding the optimum service level by minimizing the total cost of M/M/1 systems with finite and infinite capacity.
