Abstract

The ways that unions deal with globalization are described. First, a deadly factory fire and factory building collapse in Bangladesh illustrate the dark side of globalization and the how better workplace standards are needed to protect workers in global manufacturing. The unions’ traditional approaches—organizing, bargaining, and political action—are then described and evaluated. Non-traditional approaches—the unions’ role in coalitions and International Framework Agreements (IFAs)—are then reviewed
