The Syrian Revolution

Abstract

This chapter studies developments, implications and results of the Syrian crisis that began in 2011. Akhmedov examines political, social, economic, ethnic, ideological, regional and international dimensions, and makes some forecasts about the further development of the current situation in Syria. As a result of the prolonged civil war, the former political system of the state and its main institutions have been almost destroyed. However, the organization of the government in the current transition period and the formation of government institutions should be solved by the Syrians themselves. Despite these difficulties, achieving peace in Syria is quite possible. Much depends on the political will and the readiness for mutual compromises between key internal and external actors in the Syrian uprising.
