How to Introduce SCRUM into Software Engineering Course

Abstract

In recent years, the Agile methodology as a relatively new approach to software engineering is becoming more popular in industry; and Scrum is the most representative one in the agile practice frameworks or models and is being adopted by more and more IT companies. It is necessary to introduce Scrum into the Software Engineering undergraduate course in our universities to meet the talent requirements from industry. But there are a lot of conflicts between the agile methodology and the traditional software engineering methodology; it will bring some big challenges to us when we introduce Scrum into the software engineering course. In the chapter, the author will explain how to overcome the obstacles in introducing Scrum to Software Engineering based on the past 2-year teaching experience. The results show that the course knowledge system was rebuilt and the better teaching environment was set up successfully. Moreover the students get deeper understanding in software engineering principals and have more interesting in practices of this course.
