Abstract

This work aspires to study the role of the Higher and Highest Educational Institutions in the sustainable development of a Region. More particularly, is studied the impact of the T.E.I. of Thessaly (based in Larissa and the annexes are in Trikala and Karditsa) in economic, social, cultural and educational life of the Region. The article is divided into three parts. In the first part it is studied the T.E.I. of Thessaly (in the frame of country’s higher education) and the region of Thessaly. In the second part it is presented the basic conceptual delimitations and finally in the third part the research conducted in order to highlight the establishment and operation impacts of T.E.I. Departments in the broader Region. The conclusions of this study will contribute to the dialogue developed and will provide knowledge for the peculiarities of the Thessaly Region.
