Abstract

Although in Romania the development of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) field is still in the beginning stage, many of the leading companies in this field understand the value of a strategy to increase the competitiveness by adopting CSR practices, aligned and integrated with the key values and operations of the business, strategy that results in tangible action programs and sustainable success. In the permanent search for the competitive advantage and of the performance expressed through competitiveness, the companies seek to obtain on the market the competitive advantages through differentiation from the competitors. The problem that arises in the investigation of the competitiveness is the existence of the connection between it and the CSR, as well as of the correlations between different stakeholders that ensure the practices of CSR and the increase of the competitiveness of the organizations. The article presents a study based on a conceptual model, based on the stakeholder theory, which employs an analysis carried out on 126 industrial companies from Northwestern Romania, belonging to 12 industrial sectors, which are among the top companies in this area. The results reveal the existence of positive connections between all four stakeholders’ CSR-oriented activities and competitiveness. The novelty of this study consists of identifying and ranking the industrial sectors that have the highest degree of proactivity related to CSR practices oriented to the four activities studied.
