Abstract

The Solvency II regime represents a relatively robust and harmonized prudential framework applicable by insurance undertakings in the European area since January 2016. The aim of this study is to present a quantitative research accompanied by a qualitative comments on the amount of assets and liabilities, the impact of its revaluation using statutory valuation methods to market consistent valuation methods, an analysis of structure of eligible amount of own funds to cover capital requirements, and an analysis of solvency position of the insurers in the scope. The research was performed on the data reported by the insurers operating on the Czech market in its Solvency and financial condition report as of the first date of public disclosure. The analysis proved that, in overall, the insurers in the sample were adequately capitalized from a regulatory point of view. That concludes that the Czech insurance market has undergone a groundbreaking change in regulatory insurance supervision regime without negative impact.
