Agribusiness Development with Respect to Unstable Energy Markets: Modeling and Forecasting

Abstract

Since 2000, the Russian Federation has seen an increase in agricultural production. At present, there are prerequisites for more intensive growth and development, but there are also several constraints, including high energy costs. The main energy resources used in agricultural production are petroleum products (gasoline, diesel fuel) and electricity. The research uses methods of system analysis and comparison of necessary data obtained from official sources, as well as data from annual reports of agricultural enterprises in the Moscow Region. The article shows the share of oil products and electricity costs in the structure of agricultural production costs. A link has been established between price increases for basic energy resources and certain agricultural products. Average producer and purchase prices for the main types of fuel and energy resources and their ratio are considered. The link between changes in oil and gasoline prices is analyzed. The structure of gasoline and electricity prices is assessed, and the main factors that influence their formation are identified. The impact of the energy pricing system on the efficiency of agricultural production under current conditions has been studied, and separate directions for saving energy costs have been identified. The authors show that the energy pricing system negatively affects the cost of agricultural products and hinders the development of agribusiness. The authors assess the possibility and expediency of government support for agricultural producers through preferential pricing. Digitalization is considered as a means of reducing the cost of energy resources in agribusiness.
