Abstract

In Germany, physiocracy never had a lasting influence. This is also true for Schlettwein, the most important German physiocrat of the eighteenth century. Their approach became one of the shortest and weakest episodes of any school of economic thought in Germany. Some argue that the main ideas of French physiocracy (Meek 1962; Oncken 1902; Gömmel and Klump 1994) could simply not be transmitted to the very different German circumstances (Priddat 1998, 49).
