Abstract

In this chapter, education about standardizationEducation about standardization will be examined chronologically to the development of BulgariaBulgaria: from the socialist eraSocialist era, during the transition period to the present day market economy, at the beginning of the 21st century with the necessary discourses on sustainable developmentSustainable development. Education about standardizationEducation about standardization in the socialist period of mandatory application of state standards in the economy as well as the role of the European standardsEuropean standards in the transition period from centralized and planned economy to market economy is critically analysed. The unique manifestation of nostalgia for the “mandatory standardsMandatory standards” of food quality on the Bulgarian market is explored in the light of the significant knowledgeKnowledge deficit on standardsStandard and standardization affecting all stakeholdersStakeholder along the value chain (consumersConsumer, manufacturers, traders, state institutionsInstitutions, educational institutionsInstitutions, sectoral and consumerConsumer organizations, etc.). On this basis, successful national practicesPractice for education about standardizationEducation about standardization are presented within the framework of universityUniversity educationEducation in the country.
