Abstract

It is too optimistic to think that our future society will develop prosperously without changing the system of market mechanisms that promote the creativity of each individual. In particular, it is predicted that artificial intelligence will worsen unemployment, increase income inequality, suppress the well-being of people, and endanger the environment and sustainability of our planet. These issues will not be automatically solved by the current market mechanisms under capitalism. In this chapter, we discuss policies to amend the functioning of market mechanisms by introducing a co-creation system that promotes the creative activities of individuals and reduces the ecological burden of our society. We introduce the concept of “polyphony”, and propose that it is time to rethink our business models and focus on the future of the global economy and how to replace our current linear “take, make, dispose” model with a new sustainable circular economic model. The essence of polyphony is the creation of new value and harmonization of different people.
