Venezuela and the International Crisis

Abstract

This chapter attempts to explore the effects of the international crisis of 2008–2009 on the Venezuelan economy. Venezuela is the fourth biggest Latin-American economy, with 7% of the region’s GDP. It follows the region’s giants (Brazil, Mexico and Argentina) and accounts for 8% of regional exports due to sales of petroleum and its derivates, which are practically its only exports and the core of its economy.
