Abstract

This chapter provides introduction to the idea of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿah-based socio-economic development index. It addresses key questions such as: Why a balanced socio-economic development is important? How such development can be defined in terms of objectives of Sharīʿah? What are the possible ways to measure it? Lastly, what are the current directions of the literature thus summarizing the contents of the book?
