Abstract

This chapter is devoted to provide an introduction to the monograph. It introduces the reader to the image and symbol of the speculator. Often defined as a smart individual, opportunist, and schemer, whose main job is to second-guess the opinions of other investors to take advantage of the market information and its fluctuations. In this chapter, speculators are assimilated to the figure of Lucifer who tried to raise his throne above the stars and become like the Most High, but God cast him down to the depth of the pits as a mere man. In light of this, the speculator is an actor entering the financial stage of the world, and the world is his oyster. He brings with him all his humanity and fragilities in the constant seek of one common purpose: profit.
