Abstract

Currently, corruption continues to be one of the great challenges for Europe, as we are talking about a cost to the European economy that amounts to approximately 120,000 million euros a year. The 2014 E U Anti-Corruption Report shows us that the nature, scope and treatment of corruption are different in each of the member states so that the effectiveness of the anti-corruption policies developed is also different. The chapter identifies the types of corruption existing in Europe and it introduces the context of the corruption problem in Europe during the period 2010–2020 with a PESTEL analysis, which is a common way to study an environment, including political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal factors.
