Abstract

For decades, countries in Asia and elsewhere have competed with each other to attract FDI by offering a variety of incentives and other concessionary measures. For example, many East Asian economies have been particularly aggressive in using preferential tax treatments and other implicit and explicit subsidies to attract FDI, for example through “bidding wars” or “fiscal wars”.1
