Abstract

This chapter introduces some perspectives on China’s population policy decision-making process, offering an examination of the repercussions of China’s post-1949 population policies on evolving age structure and labour market supply, particularly within the context of the post-1979 economic transition. Furthermore, this chapter delves into an investigation of the one-child policy, aiming to discern its dual effects, encompassing both positive and negative aspects, on China’s social development and income transition.
