Abstract

Eli Lilly and Company is a global research-based pharmaceutical corporation dedicated to creating and delivering innovative pharmaceutical-based healthcare solutions. Our products address previously unmet medical needs and often reduce the cost of disease, thereby providing significant health and economic benefits for patients, providers and payers. Lilly employs more than 30 000 people worldwide and markets its medicines in 179 countries. The company has major research and development facilities in nine countries and conducts clinical trials in more than 30. Since it was founded more than a century ago, Lilly has been at the forefront of many of the most significant breakthroughs in modern medicine. Lilly was among the first companies to develop a method to massproduce penicillin, the world’s first antibiotic, and in 1982 introduce Humulin® — the first human insulin. Then in 1988, Lilly launched Prozac®, the first in a new class of drugs for treatment of clinical depression. Prozac remains the world’s most widely prescribed antidepressant.
