A Brief History of Business Regulation

In: Regulating International Business

Abstract

Recent calls for new approaches to international business rules have been created by the rapid post-war growth of international business through the activities of transnational corporations (TNCs). This has resulted in the need for a regulatory order which can both promote TNC activities and, where necessary, control them in the public interest. However, it is often overlooked that demands for international business regulation are far older than might be imagined. International business is not entirely new, and many of the issues discussed in this book were not unknown to previous generations.
