Abstract

Economic development and advances in medicine have resulted in unprecedented improvements in the general health of the world’s population in the last few decades. But wide variations between countries exist in terms of health expenditures, health outcomes, and the mechanisms through which health care is provided. Vigorous debate has ensued over the appropriate health care system. Indeed health care reform has been on many nations’ agenda, and health care systems have come under much public scrutiny in recent years.
