Environmental Policy Making, Eco-Labelling and Eco-Packaging in Germany and its Impact on Developing Countries

Abstract

Apart from the difficulties associated with unification, protection of the environment is considered by large sections of the German public to be the most important political issue in Germany today. Concern for the environment has also become a strong economic force, with the readiness of consumers to purchase environmentally sounder products resulting in steady sales growth for ‘green’ products. The attention paid by the German public to environmental protection is also an important concern for exporters. Many regulatory changes are taking place in response to public pressure for environmental protection and these are having a considerable impact on products imported into Germany.
