Foreign Direct Investment and the Private Sector

Abstract

Increasing attention has recently been paid in the European transition economies to variations in foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows among recipient countries and the extent to which FDI might be affected by the slowdown in privatization. This reflects both the relative importance and the recent slowdown of privatization-related foreign direct investment flows in most advanced transition economies, along with the capacity of their newly emerging businesses to attract foreign capital in the post-privatization period.
