Abstract

Multinational enterprises (domestic and foreign ones) are of growing importance in determining the direction and speed of industrial structural change in the Federal Republic of Germany1. With rising unemployment there has been increasing public concern about possible employment effects of foreign investment. This has mainly focused on the question of a possible export of jobs resulting from foreign investment by German firms rather than on the employment impact of inward investment by foreign firms.
