Abstract

‘What would you advise me to do, Geoffrey? I feel that Sykes is now too big for my style of management and I would like to retire, having obtained a public quotation. But I do not feel able to do either with all the problems we are facing at the moment.’ Harold Paish, chairman and managing director of Henry Sykes Ltd and deputy chairman of Sykes, Lacy-Hulbert, was talking to Geoffrey Scarlett from the Industrial and Commercial Finance Corporation (ICFC), their major financial backer and shareholder, in January 1970.
