Abstract

In this chapter the strategy and behaviour of USAID in Tanzania will be examined from 1961 to 1995. The evolution of the American foreign aid programme from 1944 to 1960 will be briefly reviewed. The different influences of USAID’s cultural, task and political environments will be analysed. The history of the AID mission will be presented in three time periods, and the cross-case variables evaluated in each.
