Trends in German Banking

In: The Recent Evolution of Financial Systems

Abstract

About ten years ago some new terms became common in the international banking industry, such as securitisation, disintermediation, globalisation, deregulation and computerisation. Only today, and certainly even more so in the future, will the consequences of these phenomena be fully understood. This is also true for some of the new catchwords which have had to be introduced into the banking vocabulary in the meantime: derivatisation, dehumanisation and cultural change. The scope of this article is to show the consequences of these developments on the German banking system.
