Abstract

This chapter is concerned with financial management in the voluntary, commercial and public leisure sectors. The aim of the chapter is to give an insight into the nature and purpose of financial management and to demonstrate its contribution to the assessment of the efficiency and effectiveness with which resources are employed. Inevitably this is done in an introductory and selective manner because the subject is so extensive. The topics of most relevance to leisure which are examined include: the meaning, scope and structure of financial management; information and accounting systems covering the role and interpretation of final accounts; ratio analysis and performance measures; financial management methods; cash flow and budgetary analysis; capital appraisal; and sources and methods of finance.
