Abstract

This chapter presents an examination of the practices of foreign-owned and domestically owned plants with regard to union organisation. The topic is of importance for two major reasons. First, unionisation is an important influence on a variety of labour relations practices. Differences by nationality in union recognition and acceptance may be important determinants of observed policy differences (Jedel and Kujawa, 1977). Second, organised labour in a number of host nations has expressed concern over the union policies of foreign-owned firms.
