ECA Direct Loans

Abstract

ECA direct loans are specific transactions that are different from the ECA cover. An ECA direct loan is a loan provided by an ECA to a foreign buyer for purchasing goods or services from the ECA country. When providing a direct loan, the ECA acts as lender while the foreign buyer acts as borrower. The loan transaction between the ECA and the foreign buyer is similar to a loan transaction between a bank and a foreign buyer, described in Chapter 8. ECA direct loans are not the main subject of this book and the short analysis of the main characteristics of ECA direct loans is limited to this chapter only.
