Abstract

Those powerful interests which have dominated and controlled the development of the global economy for the past three decades have typically exhibited an arrogance that has led them to assume that their dominance is unchallengeable and that they can accordingly focus on extending their operations on a global scale while neglecting the western economies that have been the base and source of their power. Foremost among the developments that were not foreseen was the rise of newly developed economies with the potential to challenge and eventually displace the most powerful economies in the western world. The prime challenge of this kind has come from China.
