Abstract

Janus is a popular figure both in reality and in figurative language in the Italian culture. The two-faced god of the classical Roman era is a symbol of the two-faced nature of reality, taking the present as the focal point and looking back to the past and further into the future. The yin-yang is probably the most famous Taoist symbol, encompassing the ever-revolving nature and duality of reality.
