Abstract

This chapter has the objective of highlighting the need to rethink the management of technological innovations, product complexity and modularity at a time when Black Swans — low-probability, high-impact events — can severely disrupt the operation of global supply chains. One industry sector in such need is the automotive as in the last decade this sector has experienced the adoption of a substantial number of innovations that have affected the design and production of motor vehicles.
